First and foremost, yes Kill Zone 2, is technically a sequel, but I have not seen nor heard of the original. And I am 95% certain you don’t need to watch the first one to enjoy this one. Kill Zone is very much a fairly generic action movie, as well as a throwback to simpler times at the movies. The bad guys are very clearly bad and the good guys are very clearly good. That said, there is enough story-telling heft to give each character their own, logical motivations. But the real reason to watch this film is for the action sequences. Cheang blends some beautiful hand-to-hand choreography with some cool, slo-mo over the top action. It’s very entertaining, though nowhere near jaw-dropping. Overall, Kill Zone 2 is a very enjoyable, if predictable, actioner.

Scene of the film: There’s a big prison riot. Need I say more?

Watch it if you like: Action movies, martial arts movies, well-choreographed fight scenes, crime/gangster movies

My Rating: 6/10
